After three decades, Asia’s longest-running drama anthology Maalaala Mo Kaya or MMK is coming to an end in December.
Charo Santos, the show’s host and ABS-CBN executive, expressed her gratitude as she announced MMK’s farewell episode after 31 years on air.
“Hindi na po mabilang ang nasalaysay na kuwento dito sa ‘MMK’ — mga kuwentong totoo, mga salamin ng sarili ninyong buhay na nagbigay ng aral at ng panibagong pag-asa,” said Charo who’s been reading letters that inspire each show’s episodes.
“Kami po ay tagapaghatid lang ng mga kuwento. Kung mauulit man ang lahat, hindi po ako magdadalawang isip na piliin muli ang role na ito. Kulang po ang tatlumpu’t isang taon para magpasalamat sa inyo,” she added.
Since its premiere in 1991, MMK, which portrayed real-life stories by letter senders, has a successful run following a radio drama broadcasted through DZMM, a 1994 film, and a comic book adaptation.
In the video message of gratitude, Charo also thanked those who became a part of the show for the past years.
“Gusto ko pong magbigay-pugay sa lahat ng nagpadala ng sulat, sa aming mga direktor, writers, researchers, production staff, at sa lahat ng naging bahagi ng aming programa.
“Sa mga artistang gumanap, maraming, maraming salamat. Sa management ng ABS-CBN, sa aming mga sponsors at higit sa lahat sa inyong mga tagapanood, kayo po ang nagsabing makahulugan sa inyo ang aming ginagawa,” she said.
Fans have since reacted to Charo’s Instagram post, asking why it was ending. Others urged to replace the show with a similar concept.
“Baka naman pwede ibang host instead of canceling the show. Sobrang sayang. Nakakapanghinayang at nakakasad yung balita,” a netizen wrote.
MMK is set to air its final episode titled “Scarlet Woman” on December 10 with a three-part anniversary special starting November 26.
