Debbie Garcia has addressed speculations on what caused the altercation between her and Barbie Imperial at a bar in Quezon City.
The Viva artist claimed in an interview with showbiz reporter MJ Marfori that she had only good intentions when she approached Barbie at the gastropub last Friday, October 28.
“Didn’t expect it talaga kasi rao akong lumapit sa kanya, bebeso lang ako, syempre courtesy… Nung pauwi ako, ang plan ko lang is to say ‘bye’ to everyone kasi mga kaibigan ko po yun, business partners,” she said.
Debbie added that she was taken aback by how Barbie reacted. A circulating CCTV online showed the two having a verbal confrontation before getting physical.
“Ayaw ko siyang bastusin na dadaanan ko lang siya, (na) hindi ako magba-bye sa kanya. Hindi naman po ako ganun. Yung intention ko was really good, walang anything. Nagulat lang din po ko na ganun po ‘yung reaction niya,” said Debbie.
Debbie also debunked speculations that she was the third party in Barbie and ex-boyfriend Diego Loyzaga.
“We’re friends po. We’re not together,” said Debbie on her relationship with the actor.
Debbie and Diego worked together in the Vivamax film The Wife released earlier this year, while she and Barbie were co-stars in the TV series Araw Gabi in 2018.
Barbie announced her split with Diego last February after being together for more than a year.
Debbie has earlier filed several complaints, including slight physical injury, grave oral defamation, and grave slander by deed.
Viva Artists Agency, meanwhile, backed Debbie’s decision to take legal action against Barbie, saying they “do not condone any act of violence.”
“VAA believes that Debbie has been at the receiving end of physical and verbal attacks in the said incident,” it added, while asking the public to stop circulating videos of the incident on social media and instead “allow the matter to be resolved legally,” read VAA’s statement on Wednesday.
Barbie, on the other hand, remains mum on the issue.
