Ricci Rivero has reacted to some netizens’ claims that he lacked sincerity when he asked Andrea Brillantes to be his girlfriend.
The UP Fighting Maroon basketball player publicly asked Andrea after their team’s win over FEU in a UAAP game last April 9 at the Mall of Asia Arena.
Using the venue’s microphone, Ricci announced: “I just wanna ask Blythe to be my girlfriend.”
Andrea, who was in the crowd, was presented with two black shirts with the words “Yes” and “No” to choose from.
The 19-year-old actress responded by grabbing the “Yes” shirt, making their relationship official.
While the surprise “relationship proposal” made fans kilig, others questioned the sincerity of Ricci’s gesture, with some noting his lack of emotion.
Meanwhile, in a Q&A session with his followers on Instagram, Ricci assured fans that he was true with his feelings, only that nervousness had gotten over him at that time.
“May sincerity po yun! I was so nervous while doing that but I took the opportunity and nagmamadali po ako kasi may team huddle po lahat ng teams every after game so hindi po ako pwede mag-tagal sa labas after,” explained the athlete-actor.
