DJ Loonyo debunked circulating “fake news” that he spoke against Hidilyn Diaz after she won the Philippines’ first Olympic gold medal.

Following Hidilyn’s victory at the Tokyo Olympics, a Facebook page named Bakkler shared  a quote card of DJ Loonyo alleging that the recording artist and choreographer is not in favor of the cash rewards and incentives that the weightlifter will be receiving.

The false quote cared read: “CONGRATS HIDILYN PERO ISA KANG EXAMPLE NG TOXIC FILIPINO. PEOPLE NOWADAYS NGA NAMAN, MAS PIPILIIN ANG EASY MONEY KAYSA MAGTRABAHO NANG MARANGAL. YUNG IBA DYAN KAYOD-KALABAW TAPOS IKAW UMAASA LANG SA BIGAY?”

DJ Loonyo then took to his Facebook page to denounce the false statement and aired his disappointment over those who easily fell for the “fake news” after getting criticisms from netizens.

“HAY NAKO, PINOY HIHILA SA KAPWA PINOY! ANG TANONG SINO BA TALAGA ANG ‘BOBO’??,” wrote DJ Loonyo.

He continued, “Kapwa, Kababayan kong Pilipino naman, kung makareact, makatawag ng ‘BOBO’, ‘BOGO’, kala mo talaga kung sino. Guys, kapwa ko Pilipino, taasan naman natin konti yung frequency natin pagdating sa ganito. Make sure, credible yung shinishare at pinapaniwalaan niyo.”

The 25-year-old dancer also expressed pride in Hidilyn for representing the country in the global sports event.

“PROUD NA PROUD AKO SA KABABAYAN NATIN (NA SI) HIDILYN DIAZ AT ALAM KO ANG HIRAP AT PAGDURUSA MAIREPRESENT LANG ANG BANSA?IDOLO AT INSPIRASYON SIYA NG MGA KABATAAN AT ATLETA. SINABIHAN NIYO KONG MAGRESEARCH MUNA DIBA? KAYO BA?”

DJ Loonyo also shared how he can relate to Hidilyn after previously representing the country in several dance competitions abroad and also brought home a gold medal.

“ANYWAYS, ILANG TAON NA DIN AKONG NAGREPRESENT NG BANSA SA LARANGAN NG SAYAW, NAKAPAGDALA NG GINTO (DANCESTAR WORLD CHAMPIONS, CROATIA) WITHOUT ANY SUPPORT FROM THE GOVERNMENT, SARILING SIKAP AT SAKRIPISYO, PURONG PANANAMPALATAYA SA TAAS,” he ended.
