Kapuso head writer Suzette Doctolero and actress Jaclyn Jose hit back at Kapamilya director Andoy Ranay for supposedly throwing shade at the quality of GMA Network’s shows.
Andoy, in a recent virtual mediacon for La Vida Lena, shared his reasons for not leaving the Kapamilya network even with the non-renewal of ABS-CBN’s franchise.
“The reason why I stayed and continue serving with ABS-CBN is because I believe the content that ABS-CBN is producing no matter what, may franchise o wala, is world-class quality!” said direk Andoy.
“’Yun naman. So aanhin mo ang franchise kung basura naman ang trabaho, wow! Hahahaha! Grabe! I mean, di ba?
“Parang mas masarap na lang magtrabaho kahit bawas ang suweldo, kahit hindi laging may trabaho, pero alam mo na yung quality ng trabaho, yung maibibigay mo sa audience mo ay, ‘In the Service of the Filipino.’ We have (a) responsibility to our audience,” he added.
Andoy’s remark drew the attention of the Encantadia creator, who took to Facebook to air her thoughts about producing “world-class” quality content shows.
“Truth be told, no local TV network is close to having world-class shows,” said Suzette in one of her lengthy Facebook posts.
“Wala pa tayo roon sa inilalako natin ang kultura’t eksperyensang pinoy sa pandaigdigang market,” said Suzette.
She added that the Kapuso network does not have to claim that their shows are of world-class quality just to show off.
“Ewan ko sa iba pero at least ang GMA ay walang yabang promo na pa world-class kuno kami. Ginagawa lang namin ang kaya naming gawin para magbigay aliw at minsan ay impormasyon sa aming viewers.
“Kailangan magtulungan ang (government) at entertainment industry para sa world-class goal. Kaya hinay-hinay sa pagda down sa iba at pagyayabang. Malayo pa tayong lahat,” Suzette said.
The head writer also wrote how the biggest names in the showbiz industry are in the rival network, but the GMA shows are still able to beat them in the TV ratings.
“Why? Kasi Content is King. Pero wala kaming claim na world-class kami kasi alam namin na marami pang dapat gawin at ayusin at babaguhin.”
Suzette went on to say that their home network has “creative freedom”, explaining that they try to explore an array of themes and concepts.
“Hindi po kami ang totoong basura. And yes, may franchise kami. Kasi we pay our taxes…at yun ang totoong may class,” said Suzette.
Jaclyn, on the other hand, took to Instagram to express her disappointment at direk Andoy’s remark.
“Pinaghihirapan po namin ang lahat ng lumalabas… hindi po kami basura,” said Jaclyn while taking note of what all the TV production crew members go through during filming.
“Ang lungkot lang… mula pagpasok ng crew set up tent? Hanggang sa pagdating ng mga artista at nagkukumahog to be ready?
“Sa set up ng DOP, set designer, huhugot ang mga artista para ready at all times, maayos trabaho, pagod, pero masaya kasi alam namin nakagawa kami ng relevant scene for a day.
“Pinag-iisipan ng lahat kung ano ba ibibigay per sequence, lahat nagtatrabaho walang hanggang trabaho,” wrote Jaclyn.
Jaclyn published her statement under a quote card that read: “I don’t fear the enemy who may attack me, I fear the fake friend who will still hug me.”
Jaclyn previously worked with direk Andoy in the Kapuso series Mundo Mo’y Akin in 2013.
