Herbert Bautista said he was unaware of Kris Aquino’s engagement to former Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Sec. Mel Sarmiento, but is nonetheless happy for her.
“Sabi ko naman masaya ako, yung peace and quiet … ‘yun ‘yung hinahanap niya eh. Ok naman. I think she’s happy,” Herbert was quoted as saying in a Pilipino Star Ngayon report.
The actor-politician said he only got an idea of Kris’ engagement through his newsfeed.
“Hindi ko alam na ikakasal siya. Hindi kasi ako nagmo-monitor ng ano niya (social media).
“Happy ako sa kanya. Happy ako for her,” added Herbert.
Herbert previously dated and was romantically linked to Kris.
However, in an Instagram post last June, Kris opened up about ending her friendship with someone who became her best friend for seven years.
“After 7 years, we did become the best of friends & I know even that part is now over,” read a part of Kris’ Instagram post.
Although there was no name mentioned, netizens speculated that Kris was referring to Herbert.
Last August, Kris created a stir with her Instagram post greeting her mystery man a happy birthday.
On October 24, Kris surprised netizens with the news of her engagement to Mel, describing him as “my best friend and the man I said yes to spending the rest of my life with.”
